Job Description

My client, a Birmingham based barrister’s chambers, is looking for a Clerk to join their Family team. This team deal with all issues of Family matters normally child custody.

Ideally - they are looking for someone who has worked as a Clerk previously, but we are happy to speak to candidates who have relevant legal experience in a related role for example you may be involved in court listings at county court or currently work for a solicitors firm and deal with barristers clerks, so are very familiar with how barristers, barristers clerks and the court system works. The salary range reflects what they will offer dependent on experience.

We are looking for candidates that meet the below criteria:

Diary and Practice Management experience - preferably with some knowledge of the relevant billing systems although this is not essential

The ability to deal efficiently and effectively with members of chambers and clients (professional & lay) at all levels.
Have some knowledge of the legal aid system

Pro-active in their approach with a high degree of initiative

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Can effectively time manage

We will give consideration to candidates who have no prior barristers clerking experience, but who have the aptitude to learn quickly and can communicate very effectively both orally and written, so an excellent academic record is essential.
