Job Description

My client, a newly established business in the West Midlands, is looking to grow its presence in the UK and across Europe in the provision of high end halal products.   They currently have some of the well know supermarkets as customers and the plan is to grow; with exciting and demanding plans over the next five years.  They are seeking a General Manager, which is MD equivalent level, to be responsible for developing a multi-disciplined team covering production, technical, new product development, sales. export, procurement and marketing business functions, including profit accountability. The General Manager will be responsible for the team's objectives and their achievements.


  • Manage and drive productivity in every department within his/her remit.

  • Driving a continuous improvement and lean manufacturing culture.

  • Management and development of staff to create a culture focused on safety and accountability.

  • Maintaining high standard levels with; health and safety, food safety and transport costs.

  • Financial accountability for the operation including labour, materials and CAPEX.

  • Ensures all products meet quality, cost, volume and service delivery requirements.

  • Establishes business plans, manages costs and delivers financial returns that meet or exceed the expectations of the company.


  • Experience and networks within the food and meat industry or other relevant industry experience with good knowledge of procedures within the major food multiples.

  • Experience in sourcing new innovative products, raw materials and identifying manufacturers in UK and across Europe.

  • Possess complete financial knowledge of P&L and be able to work with the CFO to set budgets, manage reporting and produce profit orientated financial models.

  • Experience and understanding of new product development and processes involved in food labelling and packaging.

  • Ability to manage company KPI’s and achieve sales growth, managing teams working with the mainstream food multiples, independent food retailers and arranging exports into Europe and MENA countries.

  • Demonstrate an impeccable track record of great achievement and success as a Manager within previous roles and display motivation in building on past successes.

  • Be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills at all levels and influence change for the better of the operation.

  • Have the ability to manage, innovate and mentor a diverse team.

  • Day to day management of an fast moving high volume production facility, providing leadership for the site senior team in defining and supporting the delivery of the site strategic plan.

  • Working with direct reports (production, technical, npd, sales. export, procurement) to drive performance whilst also keeping a focus on staff development and succession planning

  • To deliver site budget and effectively manage and minimise costs.

  • Driving a site continuous improvement culture from the top

  • Working closely with the production function to deliver better reliability/performance so as to ensure site KPIs are met.

  • Strong leadership, and particularly able to demonstrate ability to coach and support managers to accept delegated accountability through empowered leadership.

  • Provide organisational design and development.

  • Develop change management initiatives.

•Bachelor’s Degree

•8 years plus experience leading, multi-discipline team in an environment requiring a high degree of collaboration

Minimum 8 years of direct management/leadership experience (influencing, coaching, managing through others, developing diverse work teams)


Experience building relationships with customers

Functional knowledge in Finance, Operations, Sales and Risk Management

Experience building a culture of teamwork, collaboration, accountability and the empowerment of employees

Exhibits Conviction, Courage and Integrity

Strong communication (verbal and written) – ability to get message across to a variety of audiences.

Strong people-management skills – ability to engage, develop and motivate a workforce

•Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Engineering, Business or related field.

•Leading a team using Lean / Six Sigma in a production environment.

With a background in the food manufacturing industry, you will have proven management experience with the ability to develop and motivate a team. You will also have a strong CI and Lean Manufacturing background as you will be responsible for driving a CI culture throughout the site. You will be experienced with P&L responsibility, CAPEX projects and driving cultural change through your proven change management background
