My client operates in the charitable sector. We are helping them recruit a highly experienced commercial manager with strategic know-how to help develop the income stream of the organisation and deliver strategic projects. This role is part time, approx. 25 hour per week, and principally consists of:-
·Strategic development and of the business and commercial activities, as a member of the Senior Management Team.
·Operational leadership and management for the business and commercial activities.
·Identifying and building relationships with existing and potential customers; commissioners; funders; donors and corporate sponsors to secure and expand the income streams and profit margins.
·Marketing/PR - to publically represent the organisation with the media and external groups.
·Funding - to lead on the submission of high quality funding application and tender bids in response to government and public sector procurement opportunities to secure new income and contracts for the organisation.
·To deputise for the Chief Executive from time to time in the management and administration of the organisation.
·Leadership - to provide effective leadership by being actively involved in the delivery of the commercial activities developing a broad and deep knowledge of these and their required outcomes.
·Operational - to lead, manage and develop high performance teams to deliver planned activity and outcomes in line with organisational standards, including the development and implementation of training/learning programmes to expand the capacity and capability of commercial delivery staff. Given the seniority of this role, flexibility is required and some evening/weekend work may be required.
The skills and experience a successful applicant should posses are:-
- Experience of working in a senior management role at operational level, including project delivery, budgetary responsibility, HR and tendering/bid success.
- Experience of introducing, delivering and success in commercial projects to a charitable or third sector organisation.
- Knowledge of issues faced by third sector organisations seeking to compete for funding and in new markets, together with knowledge of income generation and fundraising methods
- Excellent analytical skills, and the ability to understand information derived from complex reports and tender bid documentation
You should also possess first class behavioural characteristics, including excellent communication skills, and the confidence to speak publicly, a positive, driven and 'can do' approach to achieving required outcomes, as well as being decisive with the ability to prioritise and communicate to staff key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve contractual and organisational goals
